Earth Tales

Medium: Artist bound book, found material, watercolor, black walnut ink

Date: Fall 2022

This one-of-a-kind, Japanese stab-bound artist’s book is a compilation of original poetry and paintings that explore the interconnectedness of the environment and its self-sustaining cycles. The first section, Decompositions, focuses on the often-overlooked aspects of nature. By specifically using decomposing plant matter as a central theme, I aim to highlight the transitional stages between life and death. The poetry reflects the notion that decay is not an end but a necessary part of the cycle, offering opportunities for new life to emerge.

Watercolor was my medium of choice not only as a tribute to my grandmother, who was a landscape painter but also to evoke a sense of naturalism and fluidity. I hope this book encourages viewers to closely observe the world around them, appreciating the beauty in the details and reflecting on the delicate balance between life, decay, and renewal. (2023)
